Coach Shannon Flippin Resigns from Timberwolves Volleyball Program
Petoskey, MI – The North Central Michigan Athletic Department announced today that Head Volleyball Coach Shannon Flippin has resigned from his position, effective December 2025.
Coach Flippin, who has led the Timberwolves for three seasons, expressed that the decision was a personal one, driven by his desire to prioritized his loved ones.
"This was an incredibly tough decision, but ultimately the right one for me and my family right now," said Coach Flippin. "I am so proud of what the Timberwolves accomplished during my tenure. I want to thank the players, staff, and the Athletic Department for their dedication and support. I will cherish my time here and look forward to being a big fan from the stands."
Ashley Antonishen, Athletic Director at North Central Michigan, shared deep respect and gratitude for Coach Flippin’s contributions to the program.
“We fully support Shannon’s decision to prioritize his family, and we wish him nothing but the best,” Antonishen stated. "He has been a dedicated leader for our student-athletes, fostering a culture of commitment and hard work. The relationships he built and the foundation he laid for this program are invaluable. We part ways with gratitude and appreciate the professionalism with which he handled this transition."
During his time leading the Timberwolves, Coach Flippin guided the team to an overall record of 46-41. Under his leadership the team qualified for and competed in the post-season each year. During that time the team has finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the MCCAA Northern Conference. Under Coach Flippin’s direction student-athletes have earned 14 All-Northern Conference honors, 3 All-MCCAA award and 1 All-Region award.
The Athletic Department will immediately begin a nationwide search for the next Head Volleyball Coach to lead the Timberwolves program. Antonishen confirmed that the process will be thorough and focused on finding a coach committed to continuing the program’s success both athletically and academically.
